The course of study for students enrolled in the Barber Instructor course shall consist of six hundred (600) clock hours which include a minimum of 260 clock hours of technical instruction (lecture, demonstration, classroom participation and examination) with the remaining 240 clock hours allotted to the completion of the state board’s minimum specified practical operations and clinic work.

For the purpose of this section, technical instruction shall mean instruction by demonstration, lecture, classroom participation or examination; practical operation shall mean the actual performance by the student of a complete service on another person or mannequin. Instructional Techniques and Methods include students attending regularly scheduled theory classes (lecture), reading assigned chapters in their textbooks and other printed materials, performing actual practical operations (services) on another person, a student or mannequin and teaching students how to perform a variety of barbering skills and techniques. As well as taking and passing assigned test with a grade point average of 70% [C] or better.

The training shall include sufficient training in acquiring knowledge of laws and regulations created by the California State Board of Barbering & Cosmetology and Department of Consumer Affairs, acquire knowledge of general theory relative to teaching, master theory relative to practical phases of barbering, acquire the ability to perform all required practical operations and teaching of barbering with a level of performance equal to 70% [C] grade or better and acquire business management skills and techniques common to barber instructors.

The Barbering Instructor course of study is designed to prepare students to become a Barber Instructor and for profitable employment as a Barber Instructor. All classes are taught by licensed instructors with many years of experience.
